Since 1998, Chopard has formed a glittering duo with the Cannes Film Festival, to which it serves as official partner.
SYNONYMOUS WITH GLAMOUR
The Maison loves Cinema: artisan of the Palme d'Or and all the prizes awarded at the end of the competition, we are also keen to promote the up-and-coming generation of the film industry by yearly presenting the Trophée Chopard to a young actor and actress. Synonymous with glamour, Chopard accompanies the traditional ascent of the steps by adorning the stars with stunning Haute Joaillerie creations from the Red Carpet Collection.
CHOPARD LOVES CINEMA
Over the past few decades, Chopard has expressed the quintessence of glamour through the creation of unique Haute Joaillerie creations adorning the greatest film stars. Julia Roberts, Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Sharon Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Swank, Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Penélope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Freida Pinto, Fan Bing Bing, Zhang Ziyi, Isabelle Huppert, to mention but a few, have all dazzled on the red carpet wearing Haute Joaillerie treasures crafted by our workshops.
THE PALME D'OR - THE ULTIMATE PRECIOUS EMBLEM
As the one and only jeweller granted the right to craft the Palme d'Or, the most prestigious of all cinematography awards, Chopard has cultivated exceptional ties with the Cannes Film Festival since 1998. Made from ethical gold since 2014, this iconic trophy, representing the starting point of this peerless partnership, symbolises the Maison's love of cinema as well as its commitment to sustainable luxury.
ARTISANS OF EMOTIONS
Since 1998, Chopard Haute Joaillerie artisans have been crafting the Palme d'Or award, a stylized golden palm branch.A radiant symbol of the love uniting Chopard and the glamorous Cannes International Film Festival, the Palme d'Or was redesigned by Caroline Scheufele in 1998. The Palme is made of 118 grams of ethical 18-carat yellow gold in our workshops, where our Artisans also produce the dainty rock crystal cushion, shaped like an emerald-cut diamond, on which the golden palm leaf rests. Since 2014, the Palme d'Or has been crafted with ethical 18-carat yellow gold, reflecting the Maison's committed and continual journey towards Sustainable Luxury. By endowing the famous award with this aura of eco-responsibility, Chopard is writing a new chapter in its history, firmly asserting its determination to contribute to the future of luxury in a way that respects both humans and the environment. It all began in 1997 when Caroline Scheufele met Pierre Viot, then director of the Cannes International Film Festival. While she was attentively examining the Palme d’Or displayed in Pierre Viot’s office, he invited her to redesign a fresh interpretation of the legendary trophy. For this devoted film-lover, it was a new challenge that she took up with great enthusiasm, committing her boundless inspiration and creativity to one of the film industry’s most highly desired awards. The following year, at the closing ceremony of the 1998 Cannes Festival, the new Palme d’Or was unveiled to the world in the form in which it still exists today.
REWARDING YOUNG TALENT
At the initiative of Caroline Scheufele, since 2001, the Trophée Chopard has been awarded at an emotional annual ceremony to rising talents in the form of an actress and an actor who have had a successful debut. Through this accolade, the Maison – in association with the Cannes Festival – reaffirms its unconditional support for creative filmmaking. Handed over by a prestigious godmother or godfather during the Cannes fortnight, for over 20 years the prize has been awarded to various budding stars in international cinema, such as Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger and Léa Seydoux.
SUPPORTING CREATIVE FILMMAKING - PASSING ON THE SPOTLIGHT
The trophy – a silver-coated gold film reel on a glass base – was designed by Caroline Scheufele herself. Like the Palme d’Or and indeed all the trophies awarded during the closing ceremony of the Cannes Festival, it is crafted by Chopard’s High Jewellery artisans. The actors are selected by a distinguished committee composed of Caroline Scheufele, along with former godfathers, godmothers and laureates of previous editions who are always happy to pass on the spotlight from which they have themselves benefited.
